To be fortified means to make something stronger or more secure. If you take vitamins, you are fortifying your body from getting sick. In Matthew 7:24-27, the difference between the house on the rock and the house on the sand was that one was fortified, the other was not. The one that did not fall was fortified by the rock. The rock is God’s word (v.24).
The flood is going to come and your reply should not be “Why me?” You just have to prepare for it. Some of you are already in it. Your way out is God’s word. Reading the bible is not enough. Hearing the word of God is not enough. You must be willing to do what you hear. You must allow the word of God to be the operation manual of your life. You must give God’s word something to work with. Your actions are needed.
Scriptures say “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength” (Deuteronomy 6:5. Matthew 22.37 NKJV). This means that your emotions must be involved. Your will must be involved. Your body must be involved. You cannot leave any of them out. They all have a part to play. Without them, you are just playing religion. There will be no change in your life.
If you believe you are a person of faith you must hear and do God’s word. If you hear only, you will fall. There are people you live with, every morning you see them read the bible yet no results in their life. Why? They have access to the bible but they are not engaging the truths they see. It is a conscious and concentrated effort. You must see the word of God as special.
God’s Word is Valuable
When I say special I mean seeing the word of God as valuable. Peter spoke to Jesus on behalf of the disciples saying “We have left all and followed you. Therefore what shall we have? (Matthew 19:27). That is value. Whatever they were forsaking they were getting a hundredfold back. That is what Jesus replied to them. They saw that God’s word can give them whatever they need. They left everything for one thing. That one thing gave them everything. Jesus plus nothing equals everything.
There is no salvation, satisfaction or success without God’s word. The reason you are not getting results from the word is that you do not see yourself in the word. You are not seeing that the word is talking about you. The word is pointing to Christ (John 5:39 NLT). Christ lives in you. The pictures you see in scriptures is about you. Stop excluding yourself from the supernatural. You are one with Christ means that the scriptures are showing you who you are in Christ. The more you know Christ the more you know yourself.
You have to engage the word till it becomes weighty in your life. The storms of life are drowning you because your life has no anchor to hold on to. Keep adding the word into your life until you become a heavyweight champion of the word. It is the weight and strength of the rock that made sure the house on it did not fall. Keep internalizing the word and you will become unmovable.
Paul called all his efforts, certificates and human achievements as dung compared to Christ. Paul’s achievements were great. He was not a loser. I mean there are people who seek God because of tragedy or failure but Paul was successful. Most successful people will never seek the Lord because they believe they do not need him. Yet Paul emphasized that all his achievements are just manure so as to win Christ.
There will be no winning if the word is not above everything else in your life. Do not go days without even reading the word. Do you want to be a loser all your life? Read the word so as to know how you ought to live. As you do so no storm can sink you.
Amen
