Godly Inheritance by Godly Favor

Have you ever seen someone give a testimony in church and felt as if God singled them out to the detriment of everyone else in the story? Let me tell you something: that is called favor, and it is the inheritance of every believer (Psalm 5:12). If you feel like the world is against your progress, you may not have laid hold of God’s favor. Favor is God being for you, ensuring that no opposition against you can gain ground.

Favor is Not Earned

Favor is not something you work for; it does not come through labor. Many of the lowest-paying jobs are the most physically demanding. Israel worked for the Egyptians for 430 years and got nothing for it. There are hard workers in every office—people who arrive early, finish tasks on time, and remain respectful—yet they receive no promotion or fair pay.

Favor is not worked for; it is worked out. As a believer, God’s favor is already upon you; it is ever-present. You might ask, “Then why am I not seeing it?” It is because favor does not operate automatically. If it did, we wouldn’t need to discuss it. It took one act of obedience from Moses to bring great wealth to Israel in a single night. 430 years of labor couldn’t do what one night of favor did. If you have worked for years and things aren’t shifting, favor is the answer.

Favor is Good Understanding

Moses knew God was on his side, and that is how favor works. You must understand that God is for you. Favor comes through good understanding (Proverbs 13:15). You may believe that hard work alone opens doors, but hard work only opens small doors. For the great doors—to do great things and live a great life—you need spiritual backing.

This understanding is rooted in knowledge. The prudent act with knowledge (Proverbs 13:16). You cannot expect to thrive without a working knowledge of your industry. The more you understand how your business operates, the more favor will “speak” as you act in alignment with that knowledge. Read industry books, observe how departments collaborate, and relate with those who are knowledgeable.

Most importantly, understand what God’s Word says about your situation. Find people in the Bible who faced what you are facing. Meditate on their stories, and God will speak to you. When you receive instructions and apply them, that is “good understanding.” It turns life experiences into great testimonies.

Favor is Service

I have observed that those who offer their lives in service—not out of duty, but out of a sacrificial desire to meet others’ needs—are the most favored people in life. Whether in the church, the community, or the office, service brings favor. Jesus went about His Father’s business, and the result was clear: He grew in favor with God and man (Luke 2:49, 52).

True service requires “minding your business.” This means focusing on the business of helping others rather than envying someone else’s path. When you become a voice of help to those within your sphere of influence, doors will open for you.

Consider Joseph. He served genuinely from his heart—honest, dependable, and skillful. Even as a slave in a foreign land, he was made manager over Potiphar’s entire house. Potiphar had children and relatives; why choose a slave? While most people hire based on relations or friendship, God’s favor positioned Joseph. Your tribe does not determine your rise in life. Nothing outside of you decides your success or failure. God has given you the power to be all you can be—so why be anything less?

Expect Favor

God has accepted you; do you really think man’s rejection can stop you? (Ephesians 1:6). No rejection can stop what God has accepted. Favor is not a lottery ticket, a bank balance, or a specific qualification. Favor is God being on your side and you accepting that truth. Be favor-conscious and expect great things.
