God built us to serve only one master. “…Ye cannot serve God and mammon” (Matthew 6:24). Two captains in a ship will sink it. Therefore we are to be single-minded. When you are double-minded you will not receive the blessings of God because you’re thinking two things at the same time. If you are going to two different destinations at the same time you will not get to any of them. You will remain where you are. Double mindedness brings stagnancy. Single-mindedness brings success.
Check your life, every goal you have achieved was as a result of putting all your energy and resources towards that goal. This is how we achieve great things in life. That is why scriptures say “…if, therefore, thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light” (Matthew 6:22). This means focus brings clarity on what, where, who, when, why and how in achieving your purpose.
Caleb entered the promised land because he was single-minded. His mind was on what God had said. Nothing around him changed his mind. That is why when it came to entering the promised land he said: “Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it” (Numbers 13:30). Ability surges like a force inside of us when God’s word is focused on and every other voice is stilled. Caleb “…stilled the people” before he spoke those words. You quench every voice by focusing on one, the voice of God.
The people who did not make it to the promised land were those who were double-minded. They wanted to go back to Egypt then later they repent and want to go to the Promise land. It kept happening until they died in the wilderness. This is how many people’s dream die because they are looking for the next best thing instead of focusing on the one thing which has been given to them which will bring out their best.
Some people think listening to many preachers will make them grow spiritually when it is making them double-minded. You listen to one preacher that says “all you need is prayer and fasting in this Christian race” and then you listen to another pastor that says “No need to fast, Jesus has done it all”. That is why you are not receiving from God. There are pastors God has put in our heart to listen to. Focus on them. They will bring focus to your life and will ignite a fire in your bones.
Every believer has two minds, the physical mind and the spiritual mind. Until the physical mind yields to the control of the spiritual mind you will always be double-minded. The spiritual mind “is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.” (Colossians 3:10). What this means is that our spiritual mind is the mind of Christ.
Our spiritual mind and our physical mind are to function as one and that is being single-minded. You cannot think two thoughts and your body will act on any of them. It is not going to happen. You cannot be bold in church speaking about Christ and when church service is over you are fearful preaching Christ outside the Church. That is why you are not influential anywhere you go because you are not being single-minded.
Paul said, “…this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14). Being single-minded comes as a result of looking into the word and painting new pictures in our physical mind so that they look exactly like the pictures in our spiritual mind. Those pictures should look like Christ.
If Christ was never sick then you need scriptures that paint pictures of divine health. If all Christ needs were met then we need pictures from scriptures to tell our physical mind all needs are met. Subjugate your physical mind to the spiritual mind that you may begin to receive results without hindrance.
