The average believer does not know what it means to give prayer the utmost importance in their lives. If you ask most of them about their prayer lives they will say, “I pray before I eat. I pray before you go to sleep. I pray when I want to go on a journey. I pray when you want to dedicate my house or car. I pray when someone is sick. I pray when I have problems that need answers. I pray with my family before the day starts.”  These are reactive prayers which is based on religious habits. This is why most believers are not rising above the storms of life.

If you want an active prayer life it must be infused with purpose just like when Jesus taught his disciples how to pray. Look at the beginning part of the prayer, “…Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven…” (Luke 11:2).   Prayer is primarily to makes things happen not to request for things. You are not praying because you do not know your purpose, you are not so sure or if you are, you ignorantly thinking prayer is just asking for things from God.

If you want the events of your life to change. If you want a life that people see God’s glory, then your private prayer life must move from reacting to dominating circumstances by spending hours in prayer. When Jesus was praying at Gethsemane He told his disciples that were asleep “…What! Could you not watch with me one hour?” (Matthew 26:40 NKJV) We need to move from the deceptive realm of I have prayed today to the realm of I am prayer.

There are people out there in the world sleeping with anybody to rise to what they believe is success. People are using every immoral and illegal means to be on top. Your good character alone will not make you be above them. Your legal means of taking charge of where ever you are is by an active personal prayer life which makes tremendous power available for victory.

Priority of Prayer

The number one way by which every believer must pray is in tongues. It is a divine language given to us by God to speak to him directly (1 Corinthians 14:2). It is a spirit to spirit communication. It is so powerful that our emotions will not affect it. Things happen at times that you just don’t feel like praying but you know you need to. You want to pray right but your emotions are just getting in the way. The Holy Spirit is there to help us to bypass the flesh and mind straight to God (Romans 8: 26). Praying in tongues helps us to pray out the perfect will of God.

To show you the importance of praying in tongues, Paul said: “I thank my God I speak in tongues more than you all” (1 Corinthians 14:18 NKJV). Paul prayed more in tongues that the whole Corinthians church. This is one powerful way to pray for hours. Paul, one of the greatest Apostles just summarized his prayer life to you and the Holy Spirit agrees with it.

If your life seems out of control then you need to take charge by praying consistently in tongues. Praying in tongues edifies you. It brings out what God has put inside of you. The more you pray in tongues, the more you become conscious of the fact that you are bigger than the problems you are facing. You begin to see how small they are. Why? You are stirring up the power of God resident in you. Power is the ability to do work. Now you have power available to cause changes in your life.

If you are reading this and you are not yet filled with the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in tongues then we can settle it now. Our Father in heaven wants to give you the supernatural power you need to live a successful life. Scriptures say, “For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth;and to him that knocketh it shall be opened… If ye…know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” (Luke 11:10,13).

Based on this Scripture it says ask and will receive. So you say “Father, I recognise that I need power, please fill me with your Spirit. I receive it right now in the name of Jesus.” As you have asked, you have received. Congratulations!

You may not have felt anything as you prayed but that is how I felt when I prayed the same way. I just acted knowing I had it. I acted knowing that the Holy Spirit is upon me and it happened.

You have seen how people that pray in tongues do? In the same way act in faith knowing you have received it. Move your lips. Once again congratulation on entering into the realm of power.
